Daylight Modeling and Simulation Standards The IESNA daylight metrics committee has undertaken an effort to document Daylight Modeling and Simulation standards to inform daylighting design and analysis practices and the calculation of the various metrics used.
Currently, there are minimal standards around annual 808 S Public Rd, Lafayette, CO 80026 Ph.: (303) 946 2310 info@daylightinginnovations.com daylighting modeling and simulation practices and a disconcerting lack of agreement between different daylight modeling software and processes which makes the development of daylighting metrics, criteria and thresholds challenging. This effort aims to document recommended standard modeling and simulation protocols along with a number of test case “gold standards” that can used to validate other calculation and simulation methods.
Zack Rogers is president of Daylighting Innovations, LLC, and co-founder and director of engineering of LightLouver, LLC for which he holds several patents for the LightLouver daylighting system. He is the author of the Sensor Placement + Optimization Tool (SPOT) software. He is a licensed Professional Engineer, a LEED® BD&C Accredited Professional, a member of the Illumination Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) and the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) where he is on several daylighting related committees. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder where he teaches an engineering course on Daylighting.
