Susanne Brorson from Studio Susanne Brorson talks about understanding environmental factors and climatic adaption in vernacular architecture.
Studio Susanne Brorson an architectural practice based in Germany, has researched climate related morphology of technologies of the macula farmsteads, and settlements in the Baltic Sea region. They've found that traditional buildings are responding to climate in the best possible way. She believes that architectural quality is one of the key factors to long lifespans of buildings, and therefore sustainable architecture. Brorson introduces one of their latest projects: the «Eco Village». It is located on a very windy peninsula within the lagoon and the former main site, and was constructed from prefabricated timber. Each client had to comply with the binding design guidance in terms of color and materials. It will be completed in 2022 and is made up of prefabricated timber details and thus easy to repair.
