Inside the LKR Innovation House: A Deeper Look at Healthy Design

With teams now settling into the LKR Innovation House, the building’s design intent is beginning to show its true impact—through the way people experience light, air, space, and movement each day.
Daylight and Views That Support Well-Being
Over 400 roof windows have been carefully positioned to bring consistent daylight into workspaces, helping to reduce glare and dependence on artificial lighting. Two central courtyards introduce light and greenery to the middle of the building, giving teams visual access to nature throughout the day and creating a calming, welcoming atmosphere.
A Breathable Indoor Climate
Fresh air plays a key role in creating a healthy indoor environment. Natural ventilation is supported by operable windows and responsive systems that regulate airflow based on temperature and occupancy. This contributes to better concentration, reduced fatigue, and a more comfortable everyday experience.
Materials with a Lighter Footprint
One of the most defining aspects of the LKR Innovation House is the decision to renovate rather than rebuild. This approach not only preserved the building’s original character, but also significantly reduced its environmental impact.
The structure’s glulam timber beams, concrete floors, and façade elements were carefully retained and reintegrated into the new design. These durable components were chosen to remain visible, showcasing the beauty of the existing materials while reducing the need for new resources.
Beyond the structure itself, a circular mindset shaped the interior design. Office furniture, storage units, and other fittings were restored, refreshed, or reconfigured to meet new functional needs. By giving existing materials a second life, the project avoided unnecessary waste and reinforced a culture of resourcefulness.
Material selections for new elements were made with health and sustainability in mind—favouring low-emission finishes, responsibly sourced wood, and materials with long-term durability. The result is a space that feels warm and modern, while staying true to its origins.
Flexible Spaces for Changing Needs
The building offers a variety of zones to support different types of work—open seating for collaboration, quiet areas for focused tasks, and technical spaces for hands-on experimentation. The layout encourages movement and autonomy, allowing employees to choose where and how they work best.
A Workplace That Reflects Our Values
The LKR Innovation House is designed around the people who use it every day. It reflects a long-standing commitment to sustainability, healthy indoor environments, and a culture of innovation. As teams continue to move in and make the space their own, the building is already starting to support new ways of working—more connected, more comfortable, and more future-ready.
